Improving on 2000′s Model: The 2001 MDX Revisited

Acura MDX

Acura has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the Acura MDX of 2001. There are two trim levels to the MDX, including Base and Touring. The Touring version is one of the more popular options. Like in 2000 the popular 3.5 liter has made this a popular choice for sport utility buyers around the world.

Performance

The MDX Touring is equipped with a Honda 3.5 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a Honda 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Acura.

The MDX uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Fuel is handled for the MDX is a PGM-FI design, running on gasoline fuel. The gasoline is handled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 19.20 gallons.

MDX Touring Statistics

The MDX is 188.50 inches long, 77.00 inches wide, and 68.70 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 106.30 inches. It is able to seat 7 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the MDX is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The listed retail price in 2001 (MSRP) was $34,370, with an invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.

Fuel Efficiency

The MDX Touring received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty three when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

In 2000 and 2001 the MDX Touring was availble in the exterior colors of Dark Emerald Pearl, Deep Mahogany Pearl, Granite Green Metallic, Mesa Beige Metallic, Nighthawk Black Pearl, and Starlight Silver Metallic. Additional options were made available by the factory.

Conclusion

The 2001 model year was unsuccessful for the Acura MDX. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Touring version) meant that buyers had several options to choose from..
